We’ve had this distiller for more years than we can remember and we continue to use it every single day. We had planned to move to a higher model once we wore this one out, but it just keeps on distilling. We’ve had our unit reconditioned once (which is typical after so many years of use) but it’s far more economical than having to purchase a brand new unit. Robust and efficient, this distiller is a workhorse.
We prefer to have two storage bottles. One storage bottle used to store water for use throughout the day (in the refrigerator if you prefer it chilled) while the other filling with a fresh batch of distilled water. Or simply use a glass water jug to store your water.
Use cold water to fill the boiler unit. Hot water may pick up additional impurities from the hot water tank.
Description from Waterwise So compact and portable, this distiller is perfect for your home or travel. It will keep you supplied with fresh, homemade distilled water no matter where you are. Lightweight and easy to store, this little powerhouse is a world traveler, widely used by Peace Corps volunteers with excellent results. It will work just as well in your home or RV where space is limited. It’s so affordable you could also consider a Model 4000 for your vacation home. NO assembly, installation or hookups. Using the Model 4000 couldn’t be easier. Simply fill the stainless steel boiler with tap water, press the start button, and soon you’ll be enjoying the most deliciously pure and refreshing water you’ve ever tasted. The handy glass collector bottle fits inside the distiller for compact storage and portability. Water as Pure as Nature Intended
The Villains of Pollution
Back to Nature
The Elixir of Life You see, water is rightfully called the "elixir of life." In fact, recent research reveals healthful water may actually be the ultimate age-defying nutrient. Imagine that, something as simple and ordinary as water helping you to maintain or perhaps even increase physical youthfulness. But it's true. You can gain amazing health benefits from a steady dose of 8 glasses of purified water a day:
Maintaining an adequate level of hydration is essential for efficient regulation of your body's normal physiological functions. As you can imagine, if your brain is not properly hydrated, your thinking ability becomes dull, you have trouble making the best decisions and your potential for headaches and dizziness increases. Your liver breaks down fats, so when it's below its hydration mark, your digestive system experiences a chain reaction of imbalances. And so on. Take a closer look at what water does inside your body and you'll discover it:
Naturally you want the same clean, abundant water supply for your family as the mighty civilizations of times past. But there has always been an unseen struggle-the struggle of creating and maintaining a clean water supply. Unfold the chronicles of history and you'll discover that people commonly died from waterborne diseases like cholera, dysentery, and typhoid fever. As populations have increased, the demand for properly treated water has also increased. Today, we have impressive municipalities that have done an out-standing job, but there's a problem of aging water treatment systems overwhelmed by the large volume of contaminants.
Think Before You Drink Equipped with outdated technology, many municipalities simply weren't built to handle the influx of modern-day contaminants. A host of pollutants such as pesticides, herbicides, toxic waste from landfills, chemical and oil spills, acid rain and more find their way into our water supplies. Even if the water that leaves the treatment plants meets EPA minimum safety standards, health threats don't stop there. The water may pass through unsafe water lines that re-contaminate it on the way to your home. Examine your pipes and those of water distribution systems and you'll find the insides of some of these pipes caked with mineral, biological and chemical deposits. In some cases the pipes themselves may leach copper and lead! Another threat lurking inside older water pipes is biofilm, com-posed of layers of bacteria that can harbor pathogens like E. coli. And don't think well water is any safer, because ground water pollutants may also seep into that source. Add to that the chlorine and other chemicals commonly used to treat well water, and you have drinking and cooking water that is chemically altered. The sad truth is our water supply is compromised by harmful chemicals. Even though EPA standards require water treatment plants to reduce certain contaminants, their 2002 annual report indicates that there were 80,635 documented violations nationwide. When violations occur, "boil water" alerts are issued. But by then, you may have already consumed dangerously contaminated water. You have to ask yourself the question, "Over the course of my life, how will these chemicals and trace pollutants affect my health and that of my family?" Consider what this means if, over the course of your life, you drink approximately 13,000 gallons of water. There could be undetected contaminants in each glass you drink - having a cumulative effect on your health for the worse. That's why it's so important you make doubly sure the water you drink is 100% steam distilled. Comparison of Water Treatment Technologies
Filtration:
Reverse Osmosis:
Distillation: In this age of high technology, one of the most effective drinking water treatment systems available is steam distillation. Based on Mother Nature s primary purification method, distillation uses evaporation and condensation to separate pure, fresh water from its contaminants. In nature, the process is called the hydrologic cycle. It occurs when water evaporates, condenses, then falls to the earth as H2O. When adapted for use in a home distiller, the process is an effective means of removing bacteria, viruses, pathogenic cysts, toxic metals and most organic chemicals and nitrates from ordinary tap water. Distillation provides consistent purity, gallon after gallon, year in, year out. No other water treatment technology can guarantee consistent quality of the time. The purity of your drinking and cooking water is guaranteed when you use a quality distiller.
